News : Model 2 Emulator v0.9 (New & Improved? Oh Yes!)
Posted by COOLDUDE on 2009/2/1 15:20:04 (1666 reads)
News

* Fixed TGP emulation bugs and added missing opcodes. Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtua Cop 2 are now playable. There is still a bug with VF2 hair/body collisions, probably another TGP bug, but it's quite hard to find...
* Fixed I960 bug that caused daytona invisible walls/holes in the road.
* Fixed timer bug that caused missing hair in Fighting vipers, tails in sonic and slow cars in Sega Rally (although they still don't work properly).
* Added support for "return to neutral". Enable it with HoldGears=1 option in emulator.ini. This setting will cause the emu to return to neutral when no gear button is pressed.

News : Top 5 Most Addictive Games
Posted by COOLDUDE on 2007/8/24 13:30:00 (2507 reads)

(From an MSNBC article)

"The majority of video games out there today are far from great and that is why we get so excited whenever we find one thats truly enjoyable.

But sometimes a game can be so much fun that we might start ignoring other things that are important things like work, school and relationships. Though we would like to think of this as a healthy love of games, some people might say we have an addiction. If thats the case, then these are the games we're most addicted to.

'World of Warcraft'

With over 9 million registered players, Blizzard’s World of Warcraft is the big daddy of addictive games. And these players donâte just buy the massively multiplayer online role-playing game - they also pay a monthly fee so they can continually get their fix.
Why is “WoW” so popular? It could be the fantasy environment that allows players to be mythical characters with incredible powers. It could be the large-scale battles that let gamers group together and go on raids. It may be the game's social element that makes it easy for people to make new friends and connect with old ones.

No matter what this means to its legions of fans, there is no denying that this game can make sitting alone at your desk feel like one huge party

News : Ms. Pacman Turns 25!
Posted by COOLDUDE on 2007/3/19 5:20:47 (1138 reads)

Here is an interesting article about Retrogaming Super-star, Ms. Pacman:

"Pac to the Future: 7 Ms. Pac-Man Fun Facts!
At 25 Years Young, the Queen of the Arcade Remains a Pop Culture Icon"

By Ian Hodder

"In terms of game play, Ms. Pac-Man is similar to her sweetie, though faster-paced; with four different mazes, featuring "warp tunnels" that connect opposite sides; and so-called coffee breaks that track her courtship ("Act 1: They Meet").

But even after a quarter-century, Ms. Pac-Man has yet to reveal all her secrets.

From her surname's origins to her "Friends" cameo, here are seven trivia tidbits about the virtual world's most a-maze-ing lady:

1. The name "Pac" stems from "paku paku," which is Japanese slang for the motion of eating, kind of like "gobble, gobble" in English. The original 1979 game was called "Puck Man," which was wisely tweaked before its American launch.

2. Ms. Pac-Man's first maze features 220 dots, four power pellets, and four ghosts, named Blinky, Inky, Pinky and Sue. All of the ghosts also appeared in Pac-Man, except for Sue (she's the orange one), who replaced the original's Clyde.

News : MAME - The New Video Landscape
Posted by COOLDUDE on 2006/8/1 13:00:00 (1763 reads)
News

You should read this if you are used to how MAME's video system worked prior to 0.107 and you want to understand how you should configure MAME with the new rendering system in place.

This article originally appeared in a slightly different form at http://aarongiles.com/

The New Video Landscape

Since its inception 9 years ago, MAME’s video system has defaulted to a mode where it tries to change resolutions on you. And since the first port of the core to Windows 5 years ago, it has defaulted to using your graphics card to stretch the video to that resolution.

I’m sure a lot of you out there have taken a lot of time to tweak the current set of video options to make them work the way you like. But every once in a while, you need to take a step back and re-evaluate the situation. The current video system has been in place for 5 years now without much substantial change. And with the recent rewrite, you’re almost certainly going to want to rethink the way you have things configured.
